he is having a running battle with Husband over the redcurrants, strawberries and raspberries at the moment. Blackbird sings very sweetly most of the day high in an Ash tree near our garden and we admire his singing but also wonder why he is not helping his wife feed the babies. (typical man ??). In the evening it is a different story. Blackbird swoops down to feast on our soft fruit - we let him because we love his singing!

Have been reading your blog for a while and I quite enjoy it! This last post had me laughing out loud!
If you would like to see a proper male feeding a welcome female you should come over and see our Cardinals in action on My Birds Blog
I got here from Granny's blog. Now I got to figure out how to get back out.
I like birds but they like my berries and my currants are gone before they are ripe. The birds get them. As they do the blackberries.
And why do they go for the biggest, reddest strawberries of all, or is that a silly question? Infuriating to find round pecked holes from the blighters.
We have some raspberries and I was out picking them when our next door neighbour came over for a chat. I was complaining about exactly this and he said that the birds are attracted to the red colour and what we should do is take the ones that are not quite ripe yet, put them somewhere warm and they will continue to ripen in the house.

Can't begrudge him a few berries now, can you!
They are beautiful singers and our local ones have learnt to do an alarm signal at the end of their singing sequence (being city birds)!
Don't you know that's why he keeps singing for you, to his mind, you reward him with luscious berries.
I am glad Abe has been over to see you, his bird blog is fantastic.
Love Granny
We've six nesting pairs of blackbirds, two pairs of shrikes and two pairs of magpies.......it's quite a din in the morning when they all get yakking in the morning.
I love the blackbird's song too. And he likes my cherries:-)
Typical man indeed! I hope he leaves some fruit for you too though :)
I know the birdies are having a great feast with all my raspberries..
Great post,

Huh! George eats our raspberries!
