"Ozmosis"

When my Brother, Jamie, visited us last November (he lives in Australia) he packed in his suitcase a couple of leafy twigs from his garden to start off our compost heap! Husband is seen here removing the top layer in preparation to dig out the heap onto the veg garden.

You can see the result - (oops, a lot of rose twigs, naughty me adding them to the heap over the summer).
If you like puppies please visit my brother's blog (see link above).

How lovely that he started it off for you!

Thats what I used to do when I first got into composting. I found that twigs and teabags didn't break down very well.
Now I give the council the twigs and teabags & keep the fruit skins a veg for our own. Works out very well.
Was very unusual to bring twigs in a pile of luggage from Aus! Rather touching!

I started composting last year and quite like it despite all the work.

Thanks all for comments.
Linda - I agree composting is rather satisfying!

We have been very naughty of late and haven't been feeding our compost. Must get back into the habit again.

My brother wishes to add the comments that the leaves we added to the compost heap were from a gum tree!

I still have to "learn" how to make proper compost, as there is an art to it if you ask me.
