Virgin Outage - more like Outrage

I gather from Virgin help line 50% of its users are without email services, including me! Am thinking of ditching this inefficient service as within the last 6 months there have been many down times. Any ideas which ISP I should change to?

Are you looking for a Broadband package or just an e-mail provider?

If the former, I have not had much problem with BT Broadband. For e-mail, I've found the best is again BT, with the Yahoo service.

Thanks AOJ - rang my computer nerd and at his suggestion have signed up for a google account that runs in tandem with virgin (when it is working) I can now send and received emails via this new account and when virgin come back on line google will merge them. The Yahoo service is probably run on the same lines.

I didn't have mine last night either or my internet. I nearly resorted to pulling out all my feathers and then I remembered only bored parrots do that!

Have been busy with Google mail and am finding it quite easy - when virgin email com back online will see if they merge seamlessly.

I am very happy with BT too.

I've heard the new O2 broadband is very good, if you're not too rural that is. Unfortunately we are, but they're very reasonable, especially if you have an O2 mobile.

Thanks all - googlemail is up and running and Virgin has shyly presented herself this morning - so will keep the two running in tandem as the google email is free!

Virgin broadband service is OK it is just their email systems that keep going down.

I'm Plusnet or Free-Online or whatever they're calling themselves this week. No real problems with them. (Yet. I've probably jinxed it now!)

Hope you get a smooth service soon

We're with Waitrose Broadband(who are owned by BT I think). The helpline is pretty effective, well priced and non-profit making. All profits go to charity (so says my husband!)

If you can avoid the help-lines on the sub-continent, BT is good. The UK people are very helpful. (Those are words I never thought I'd write.)

Unless you can access Sky I think all providers rely on a BT line and the quality of your service will ultimately rely on the quality of that and the distance you are from the exchange. We all know that rural exchanges are the last to be updated too.
