Childhood Memories

This mincer is very old - it belonged to my mother. Correct me if I am wrong - but I do not think they are made in steel any more. My brother (over here from Oz) remembers the mincer very well and, I think, covets it. I think mincers today have a sunction cup on the bottom which are useless. This mincer will only clamp onto my computer table which is a bit inconvenient really!

I have one of those too! I stole it from home when I got married.

Yes - my mother used to have one of those, remember it well. And I think in my first early days on my own I may well have owned one. These days I buy mince if needed.

My mother used to have one of those mincers! A few years ago I asked if I could have it and she said that she did not have it anymore. So I buy mince when I need it.

We've got one too - it's not often used but being a very simple mechanism can be relied on to work whenever we want to mince something that doesn't come ready-minced (pork for pork pies for example).

Also has a scree thingy and not a sucker. It a 'Spong'- and that's a word you don't hear very often.

Gosh that brings back memories.

Agreed it's not very convenient on your computer table but at least you have an excuse now not to mince your words. (groan:-)

Gosh - memories indeed. I remember my Mum using one in the 1970s. By the time I'd realised how useful it would be she had long discarded hers for a food processor - just not the same.

A happy memory - dear Mum "grinding" grapefruit flesh for marmalade. Now neither of us can eat grapefruit, but Dad makes a mean lime marmalade.

Some comments suggest that mince is bought rather than using a mincer. The mincer is actually used to mincing up cooked meat (left over roast lamb) to use in a shepherds pie etc.

And I remember Mum's shepherds pies. I ;oved the mashed then bakd (so crispy on top) potatoes.

These days dear Dad struggles to find a place to clamp down his pasta rolling gubbins machine. Now has to resort to opening up the dish washer, cos the bench above is the only spot said pasta gubbins can be clamped down upon.

All good fun and magnificent eating. Big hellos to you, and to brother Jamie from Aussie. Has he got used to wearing shoes again yet?

My mum has one of those but I don't think it's been used for years!

My mother had one too> We used to mince up the leftover joint & she made Shepherd's pie.
The mincer was made of steel or something like that.

Hell to wash thoroughly though!

I've got one or a dozen of those too and still use mine! I find them so hard to resist when I see them at a car boot sale. Memories of childhood, when it was my job to mince the remains of the Sunday roast for Shepeherd's Pie on a Monday . . .
